The Glenwood House Music Academy is a fully-equipped music facility providing quality, affordable, beginner-to-advanced music tuition to over 150 students from the school and the broader Southern Cape region, making it the largest extramural music institution between Cape Town and Port Elizabeth.
The Academy, situated on the campus of Glenwood House Private School, is staffed by 16 qualified music teachers and professional music specialists, and hosts the acclaimed South Cape Children’s Choir and the George Male Choir, conducted by Director of Music, Jan-Erik Swart.
Instruments offered at the Academy include classical/contemporary voice, violin, cello, piano, keyboard, recorder, brass, saxophone, clarinet, drumkit, classical/contemporary guitar and theory of music, and provides qualifications from UNISA, ABRSM, TRINITY HOUSE, as well as the highly popular Trinity School of Rock. The Academy is currently registering as an accredited TRINITY HOUSE examination centre. Plans are also underway to establish a regional youth orchestra at the Academy.
Junior pupils from the Glenwood Preparatory School receive music classes at the Academy, as part of their academic programme, and every pupil is evaluated towards selection for the Academy’s Accelerated Music Programme for talented children.
College pupils may join the School Band as part of their extramural programme, or enroll for individual music lessons. (Please note: music lessons do not replace extramurals). From 2015, (depending on demand) it is envisaged that Music as an academic subject will be offered from Grades 10-12.
Potential students are invited to contact the Director of Music at 044-871-4048 or firstname.lastname@example.org for further information.
